AAARRRGGGHHH! That makes TOTAL sense! I never thought of it. A pinkie that was fresh frozen and then thawed would thaw first in the belly and the blood (serous fluid) from the thawing would collect in the belly.

Thanks! Wish I'd known that last time I discarded some thawed/refrozen pinks!
