Hah!! I did that to my cat when I was little, too............it survived without too much emotional trauma, and I only got a mild scolding.
Apparently they use them to judge whether or not they can fit their bodies through gaps between stuff. So just listen for yowling to tell you kitty got stuck somewhere until the whiskers grow back.
