Lulu, I kept reading not to put them on sand, tho I honestly don't know the exact reasoning. I am using the Carefresh for now, about 6 inches deep, but am not sure if that will the final answer. I'm still trying to find more info on the best substrate for them.
Their temps should be a bit warmer than garters-- basking spot of 90, low to mid 80's for the rest of the tank. Uh oh, I don't know how to convert that to celcius...
The tank should have several hides as well as deep enough bedding to dig into, and also things for them to climb on. The male was already going all thru the fake plant I have in the temporary tank earlier!! He climbed in it all the way to the top.
I was too enthralled to remember to snap a pic.
But remember, I'm still learning all this too. So if anyone needs to correct this, please do!!!!!
