Inbreeding is very common in wild snakes for one. For two, it's safe, genetically speaking, for up to seven generations.

Neonate (baby) Garters are almost exclusively started out feeding tiny little guppies. Baby earthworms and baby night crawlers work but are very difficult to get unless you live very rural. (We have tons)
Night crawlers can be found at bait stores and are excellent, chopped, for baby easterns A few shakes of reptomin on the 3rd feeding after they've been born works as a stable for babies until they're a month or two old and are more willing to take other food sources.
