Live Births
I was always under the impression garters carried eggs - like eggs, chicken eggs - and somehow the shell of the egg "went away" prior to birth.
Obviously I've been living under a dilusion. Right? Garters truly do birth live, right? I saw somewhere - I should have noted it - pictures of a garther birthing. SO COOL AND WONDERFUL!!!! WOW!!! And they are born live with a placenta-like-thing. There's no shell. They're born like kittens - each kitten comes in its own placenta. Very amazing. Is that not the most wonderful thing about our kids? LIVE births! Totally wonderful! Blows my mind. I'm in awe. |

Re: Live Births
LOL!!!! I would think there's many a huminoid woman that would go along with your thinking about humans laying eggs. I, myself - long story - have never had a humaniod kind'a kid. (Wasn't from lack of trying.)
I've always thought... "Why can't women give birth to one of those little sponge-thingys? Where you put them in water and they swell up to their normal size? Eggs, we'd have to sit on and watch. Better the sponge-thingys.

Re: Live Births
Yeah! And so convenient for breeders too! No eggs to worry about! =D
I always get excited when a snake I want to breed is live bearing. lol!

Re: Live Births
Garters are born 90 to 120 days after breeding.

Re: Live Births
Gertie, dekay brown snakes & red belly snakes are also live born.
the "egg" is a thin membrane surrounding the embryo also containing the nutrients for development, just the same as an egg. no shell. Watching these little honeys bust out of the membranes is amazing. ![]()
