Re: Male or female ???
I'd also have to jump on the male bandwagon. As for why, if you look at the top pic you submitted, the tail doesn't really hardly taper at all after the cloaca....leaves plenty of room for hemipenes. You will, a lot of times, see much more of a taper after the cloaca on females. Question though? You have UnitedStates as where you're from, but the pic is of SanFran. Garters (T.s.tetrataenia).....they are a federally protected species in the US. Do you have some special permit to have them or something? Just curious, I'd love to be able to work with them if it were possible....but legally of course.

Re: Male or female ???
That was what I also was curious about.
Is it not so that there are probably more T. s. tetrataenia in the hands of USA-keepers than the governement would wish? Illegally, I mean.

Re: Male or female ???
Males are said to have somewhat differently-shaped heads. Sometimes I notice a difference, sometimes not. Maybe you have a better eye for seeing the difference than I do.
I suspect, that there are statistically significant differences between the head shapes of males and females, but there is also a good bit of overlap between the sexes. |

Re: Male or female ???
I think that with experience you develop an eye for seeing the subtle differences between the sexes, sometimes these differences might be so small that they're hard to adequately articulate, you can "just tell" if it's a male of female.

Re: Male or female ???
Speaking of heads I wish my garter's would grow, it's the same size as it was when it was 10" long, now it's probably near 20 and it looks kind of awkward.
