ok got a question about out turtle tank..

Ok I was wanting to redo our turtle tank.. It's a 125g.. i want it to have water on one side and land on the other.. reason for land is because i have 2 females and 3 males some of the same species and if they by chance breed i want them to have as close to a natural environment as possible.. and also so that the females don't become impacted with eggs.. does anyone have pics maybe a blue print of how to do this? I'd even pay the person to make a blue print for me.. OH here's what the 125g looks like when we set it up we now have 5 turtles in there..

Not really a blue print, but a suggestion.

Have a piece of Plexiglas or lexan cut to the exact internal width of the tank, but 1/2 the height, insert it about at the center point of the tank, and use silicone sealant to secure the panel in place.

Then fill the "dry" side with sand / gravel and whatever substrate you use for the turtles, then fill the other side with water.

presto you now have what you are looking for....

Now if you feel compelled to pay me, I'll gladly take that red tail we discussed

Re: ok got a question about out turtle tank..

Hello
Just a suggestion I've found with breeding our own turtles. Siliconing a sanded glass divider has always worked well for me in the past, however, putting in a sand pit will just cause problems because everytime they come out to bask, they'll drag sand / dirt into the water apon re-entry to the water causing problems with your filtration. We've found that a egg heavy female close to laying will do alot of digging activity generally in the water normally 1-2 days before laying. You can feel the eggs in a gravid female by holding it facing you and put your index fingers in the shell cavity in front of the rear legs and fell upward tword the head, they'll feel like ping-pong balls on your finger tips.At that time we place them in a deep rubbermaid box with sand and a cover and they will generally start laying within 24 hours. also if you'll thin down the amount of gravel and rock in your tank, your filter will be alot more efficent.
Hope you find any of this useful

Re: ok got a question about out turtle tank..

Well we have $400.00 FX5 Fuvle on the turtle tank like we do our 380g fish tank.. It helps tremendously but we still do water changes every 2-3 days as a habit.. I just want the babies they have to have as much of a natural environment as they can if we have any at all.. I'm not trying to breed just if it happens it happens not like I'm going to slap there paw and say no you cant breed lmao
