Floor covering question
Question: Can I use kitty litter for the substrate in my snakes house? If ingested, will it harm them? I need to find a cheaper floor covering. I have been using the repti bark but was wondering if there was something better/cheaper. What's recommended?

Re: Floor covering question
I have thought about that but am reluctant due to smell. As it is, I seem to be very sensetive to the "stinky" aspect of my darlings. I was looking for something that may stand up to the water dish being dragged from one end of the enclosure to the other.

Re: Floor covering question
Good suggestion, just looking for something a little better (smell wise). I just talked to my husband about paper tonight, actually. Thanks all the same.

Re: Floor covering question
LeAnn, I've heard kitty litter isn't great, but don't remember why. A lot of people use carefresh or it's generic counterpart that you can find at walmart. I've also heard orchid bark or cypress mulch from a garden center. Some people throw it in the freezer first just in case there may be creepy crawlies in it. I think a fair number of people use aspen as well. No pine or cedar, though. Oh, and some use that compressed stuff, either corn or paper/wood product. That may be found in the kitty litter section? Just make sure there are no 'magic crystals' or anything like that... just compressed natural material.

Oh. Because you know, it seems to me that, aside

Re: Floor covering question
I am testing out some of the compressed wood product. 35Lbs for $15 at the local pet shop.
I was a Menards(Lumber/home center). In their wood stove area I saw large bags of wood pellets for $2.99 a bag. I need to check to see what woods are used. I'll check it out and post on it in a couple of days. Hope it's the right wood. If so, I'll save a lot of money.
