Enclosure size for female adult garter

What size tank would I need for a adult female garter? Opinions please, Thanks!

As big as you can get.

It's sad because I had 6 forty gallon breeders with stands. When they foreclosed on us (we had 10 minutes to leave by the way!) they went into storage and we couldn't afford to pay the storage fees (long story!)so everthing was auctioned off! I do have a friend with a reptile store that will probably let me have any size I want though so what would the ideal size be?

I don't house any adults in aquariums so I may not be the person to ask.
I think a 50 gallon breeder with a sliding lock top might do well.

I still have to build 4 more sets to finish out my own snake room.
