Finally!

We finally had enough extra money to purchase a temp/humidity gauge for the snake tank. I was excited to see we were winging it fairly well. We have 77F on the cool side, 85F on the warm side, and a nice 80F in the middle. Humidity is at 53%. Any adjusting needed?

Well what I have been told my multiple members is that the cool side should be around the low 70s but your warm side is good. I'm fighting with the same problem it either gets to cold or to hot haven't got it completely right yet. Other then that My humidity is about the same as yours. Your temps are good though you just have to see how your snake likes it Hope this helped.

Thanks John. They have seemed pretty happy with us so far. The only spot we have to keep them in our apartment right now is next to a baseboard heater and a window. Was thinking of moving some stuff around pretty soon though. We have 6 snakes. 2 female adult Northwesterns, 1 female teenage Northwestern, 1 male baby Northwestern, and 2 adult female Puget Sounds. They are amazing and wonderful! They all have their own personalities and attitudes. It has been such a learning experience. We have had them since April and May 2011 and have been so rewarded by them. Most of them are very sweet and snugly. The oldest Puget Cotton is a cranky old lady. She likes to be left alone. She won't musk or bite, but you can definitely tell she wants to be left to herself. We started with the Pugets in April and then the kids wanted to each have their own. We caught the 3 NW females and one turned out to be gravid. We decided to keep one male and the rest went to another forum member Bushsnake (Joe). We are getting a male Puget this month some time and a male natrix in the spring. I love these guys and I can't imagine life without them now.

Temps look fairly good to me Kat. Do you also drop the temp at night?

We turn off the 40watt bulb at night. I just checked, it's 74F in the middle of the tank right now. Humidity is 54%.

Hey Kat...my only suggestion would be what John said...Just trying to get the cooler side temp down a little bit lower...but I guess that depends on your snakes. I know my easterns like it cooler than that...but my albino stays on the warm side of the tank where it is about 82 all the time. He never goes to the cool side. Your humidity is great...wish I could get mine up like that!

That's the great part about the great northwest. Lots of rain and humidity. I don't even have to mist. That is just our ambient humidity at work. They like to go back and fourth between the cooler side and the warm side. The pugets tend to hang out in the middle and the NW like the warm side.

Well i have no idea but my humidity is never below 40 when I first got it it was around 55 also for some reason but give it time let it regulate itself even so I doubt it will drop under 40. Mine is reading 44 right now. my temps are great though its 83F/72F. Jade spends most of her time in her hide on the cool side after I filled it with aspen good thing I got the temp down!

Yeah...your temps are good now John. When she shows signs of shedding, start misting her plants a bit a few times each day. That will get the humidity back up for shed time. It's okay where it is now. If you want, you could mist once or twice a day just to increase it a bit. I'm always trying to keep mine up...so I keep a spray bottle by the tanks and mist the plants a couple times a day. You just don't want it too moist in the tank...stick to misting the plants lightly, that's what I do...you don't want moist substrate.
