Agree.....the prey item shouldn't really be any bigger then the spider, actually I prefer to not give anything bigger then the cephalothorax of the spider.....just to be on the safe side.

I've never had a problem as long as the tarantula is big enough. I know my big Redrump birdeater would eat big cockroaches and would have no worries about penetrating their tough shells. She'd grab them and there'd be this horific crunching noise as her fangs penetrated it.
