Re: Its oh so quiet Shh Shh
Hey everybody,
I'm back after a couple days off. Just finished an epic baking session.............oodles and oodles of cookies, and three pumpkin pies. Sliced off a nice chunk of my thumb doing the pies, and learned a few things: 1. Baking can be very tiring. 2. Thumbs are a very important appendage-- never take them for granted lest you slice up one and can't use it for a day or two!!! Makes life rather difficult... ![]() 3. This forum is highly addictive....two days off and I almost went completely nuts. I really missed you people!! And man, do the posts ever add up quickly!

Re: Its oh so quiet Shh Shh
thanks Anji
any mention of social networking sites alway makes me feel slightly unwell Quote:
also every facebook (or whatever that other site is) page I've ever looked at (and there's only been less than a handful), has been overwhelming I'm not sure that I want to know this much about a person all at once - I prefer getting to know them the people who's pages I've seen I don't think I would have ever become friends with if that had been my first exposure it's kind of like people who wear too much perfume - instead of being subtly enticing, it's like an assault and not terribly inviting like when Anji talks about her baking woes, I feel at home - it's solid I totally get the picture

I tend to feel the same way about facebook-- it's like people are sharing just WAY too much information right off the bat. I know some of them have been building their pages for a while, but that's just how it feels to me. The other reason i've never had any inclination to join is that I'm one who feels that the past is the past, and if I haven't kept in touch with or found someone by now, it's most likely that I don't want to for whatever reason. And there are a few people I've crossed paths with in life that I'd rather never "find" me!!

Re: Its oh so quiet Shh Shh
Of maybe a couple hundred people I know, that have Facebook accounts, I've only accepted a few as "friends" there. You still have the option of blocking strangers from seeing your info and you can choose your friends there. I don't think any of my old "enemies" would be interested in sending me any friend requests anyway.
Can't say that it's a useful site in any way, besides for finding old friends, but it's okay if you have time to waste.

Re: Its oh so quiet Shh Shh
Well, even if you can choose who you contact and who you list as friends, it doesn't stop people from giving information about you. I had an interesting phone call from someone from about 20 years in my past, and I wasn't too impressed to find out that all they did was ask around on facebook, and someone just happened to let slip where I work. And it was not someone I would have put on my 'friend' list!!
