Re: Its oh so quiet Shh Shh

I believe it's no longer the longest word in the English language..... I don't know what the new one is though.

Recently, the 2007 edition of Guiness Book of World Records listed "pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis" as the longest word in the English language. The medical term is a lung disease, caused by the "inhalation of very fine silica dust." This too was a purposely coined word, with the explicit intent of being a long word.

Re: Its oh so quiet Shh Shh

'Houmous' is unique in that it is the only word known to man that reads 'suomuoh' when written backwards. No other word can do this.
It also contains both bowels and incontinence, which is very rare in any language.

Re: Its oh so quiet Shh Shh

I think it's safe to assume that my son won't be using either of those two words often.
Although I wouldn't be surprised if next time his asthma acts up he tells everyone he's suffering from pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, just for fun!

I think the SpellCheck on my computer just had a nervous breakdown on that word........

James, I don't know what I'd do without your educational analysis of the English language............I didn't realise I was missing the bowels and incontinence when I looked at words!

Re: Its oh so quiet Shh Shh

It's true. And because the 'O' and the 'U' are used twice, the word houmous is actually doubly incontinent.

Re: Its oh so quiet Shh Shh

Which means you must be very careful when reading the word too often -- keep the box of 'Depends' handy!!
