Re: Another hit-by-car turtle :-(
Thanks Stefan. I can do IP. We'll hit him with some ketamine first to sedate him. I really apreciate it... we were thinking we could go that route, but wanted to make sure. Never injected a reptile before.

Re: Another hit-by-car turtle :-(
Good info to have. We seem to need it frequently here.
Lori, if it were me I'd stop his suffering. It sounds like either injection site that Stefan mentioned would be relatively easy. Remember, there's no wrong answer here, just listen to your heart, evaluate his suffering, and go from there. Sorry you're having to make this decision ![]()

Re: Another hit-by-car turtle :-(
Guess you already came to that conclusion... can you tell I was thinking long and hard as I wrote... I know it's not easy and I truly appreciate you giving your time and emotions to all of the critters you help. (((hugs)))

Re: Another hit-by-car turtle :-(
Thanks Tami. And extra thanks to Stefan for confirming how to procede. It was actually a very easy procedure and he slipped into unconsciousness within a couple of minutes, and then passed away within 10 minutes. Very peaceful.
And now I know for future reference. THANK YOU!!!!! |

Re: Another hit-by-car turtle :-(
It's actually been over for a while, too, I just got busy here at work and couldn't get on to tell you. After looking him over more closely (after he was dead) and cleaning away clotted blood, we found that both of his eyes were out of socket too. :-( It was the right thing to do.

Awww, poor guy...........
I always feel sad when I hear stuff like this. I'm so glad Stefan found the info to make it easier for both you and the turtle.
