Talking Re: Lampropeltis triangulum triangulum

They show up around and in my house every now and then. They are pretty common in western NY, so I would think that they would be relatively easy to find in Ontario. They seem to like the same habitat as garters, under rocks and boards ect. They also seem to like to get into old stone basements and walls, you could ask around farm country, I'll bet you could find some old barns and outbuildings (with laid up stone foundations) that are loaded with them. This years babies should be hatching about now. Good luck

Re: Lampropeltis triangulum triangulum

Thanks alot Terry I'm gonna try...it's funny you mentioned old stone basements because our house has an old stone foundation with some minor cracks and we of course get mice constantly!but i have yet to see a single snake of any species here!what a bummer!!!

well I just might be able to help you, I just rescued one from my cousins house and I say rescue because if it wasn't for me it would most likely have met its end.....it is a baby and is like 10 inches long if I can get it
to take food and eat normaly maybe we could work something out......

Ummm....not to be a pain here, but it is illegal to sell native PA species and if you sell it across state lines you're also in vilation of the Lacy Act I believe....sorry.

Re: Lampropeltis triangulum triangulum

Hmmmm...not sure how that works. I'll have to dig out the regs. and take a look at them. Unfortunately though I do think it still falls under the Lacy Act, because the animal is going to be crossing state and international lines. Here's a link with what the Lacy Act is all about. Lacey Act Only reason I know about this is because I contacted the Maine Fish and Game people about any regs. for going up there and collecting some Maritime garters (before I could find any anywhere else) and they had said that if I had transported them out of state that I would be in violation of the Lacy Act.
