my... cornsnake... is gravid?

So! I have had these two okeetee cornsnakes since a few days after their birth. My dad bought them at a show for me like 2 and a half years ago. Well, they are much larger now, and I thought for SURE that no action went on between the two... but I pulled out her tub this morning and I said OMG... you are so FAT! It didnt really bother me at first, because she is always wolfing down as many mice as she can fit! but then i realized that it's her BACK end that is fat... and that she hasn't eaten for two weeks... and, well, I guess I will be producing a few Okee's this year! They are 100% het for snow, so we could have normals, anery's, albino's, and snows! Looks to be about or 5 eggs... she is small yet and it's her first time, so wish her luck!! I guess Ill post a preggers picture of her in a bit! For now, this is her, before gravidity.

You're a lucky lady, Shannon!

How do you handle the eggs when it's time?

well usually you want to give her a egg laying box with wet moss or something to keep them from dehydrating, then you want to move the eggs over (without turning the position they're in ) and put them in a large deli cup or container filled with vermiculite or moss, then put it in an incbator

you can put a heat pad under the edge of a sterilite tub with lid on it...I use vermiculite, dampened. you want to keep the temps around 75-80 degrees. you can buy a little thermometer to set inside to monitor temps. you don't want to use regular bird egg incubators as they dry out the eggs, they will kill reptile eggs. you can open and check the conditions every week, that moves fresh air in and you can check on the eggs. a fun thing to do is check on them at night...take a flashlight and "candle" the eggs.....shine the light thru the backside of the egg towards you...if they are fertile you can see veins inside!

Re: my... cornsnake... is gravid?

yeppers!! I dont need an incubator though, I actually have found that if I put the eggs in their container up in one of the light compartments, on the far side from the light source, and i screw in a 60 watt bulb, and leave it on all the time... it stays the perfect temperature! and it even gets a bit of a rise during the day when ALL of the snake lights are on and the room heats up... it is working for the good eggs out of the racer clutch!
