If the picture that Kitkat has up is the correct one, from what I can tell in the photo it appears to be a white sided black rat. Also known as a Licorice Stick black rat. Gorgeous animals.

On second thought, I'm not positive on it being a white sided black rat without a closer photo. Kind of light on the dorsal area. Could be a white sided everglades rat or yellow rat.

    Re: [help] identifying a ratsnake..

That is not a black rat snake. Blac ratsnakes don't have any yellow on them like that one does either in the normal form or white sided as babies or adults, it's stripe is way too light. A white sided black rat will be pure white and the only color in it's stripe should be black or very dark brown. The picture is very small so it's hard to identify the species. It could be one of many many ratsnake species, but I can tell you that you may eliminate black ratsnake as a choice.

Here is Tightie Whitie, my white-sided black rat.

Mother of many snakes and a beautiful baby girl! I am also a polymer clay artist!

Are you sure that's not a Pituophis of some kind?
