I did a bit of quick googling and they don't seem to be a protected species in New York. Their care seems to be quite similar to garters in that they typically eat frogs, salamanders, etc. and in captivity frozen thawed rodents. Many recommend starting them on pinky parts. Worms would probably work, but not the rolly pollies. Good luck with your two new babies!

all native species are protected in NY state - the label is "game species" never in season
just found that out
I will post you on what it takes to get a license as soon as I know more

Thanks Rhea. I didn't spend too long looking since I was really just curious and live on the other side of the country. There were a couple of species listed as protected, but not milks. Perhaps Jeff can ask for a license for his birthday next year

p.s. never noticed that my location wasn't listed in my profile until now. I'll work on fixing that.
