is it still possible to obtain a green tree boa? i saw one in a large display in madison but he wasnt for sale and the clerk said that it was given to them by zoo and they needed a permit. is that even remotely true do u need a permit?

Re: green tree boa?
you don't need permits and you can get them here....just check on kingsnake.com. they can be a little pricey, require large vertical cages for climbing.

Are you looking for a green tree python? or an emerald tree boa? (no such thing as a green tree boa haha) they look similar, but are two very different snakes. Both need large vertical cages for climbing.
you don't need a permit at all, at least not that I have ever heard of.

That is correct. Especially after dark, according to people I've talked to. Nice loud *thuds* when you walk past the terrarium at night.

MK we all know that you prefer the little garters, Not all Boas are difficult to keep.
The red tail at the summer camp is taken out for the kids to play with all the time.
It's the "tree" variety that are "nippy" nature has programmed them to grab birds from flight, and they can strike with 85% of the snakes body length.
The loud thud that Stefan refers to is a result of the snake perceiving the motion as a prey item.
They have no venom, but they have rows of teeth for grabbing prey and holding it, these teeth will draw blood, as will a Garter.
If J or P ever bite you, DO NOT pull them off, it will damage the teeth. I run some cold water over their head until they release the grip.

Dekay, it has nothing to do with care, I just don't like boas and THEY SCARE ME.
Nope. Would not pull P&J. Would wait until they realized I don't taste good.

Re: green tree boa?
Do you need a permit to import them or by them internationally? Yes you do.
Lots of CBB Green Tree Pythons (morelia viridis) and Emerald Tree Boas (corallus caninus)available and you don't need a permit for them if you buy in the US.
Tall cage isn't that important but they do need vertical perches to hang on. A 24" cage is high enough.
