Kenabec and Niizh

Well, I'm going to be toddling here soon. I'm drunker'un a skunk. Been a long day.

In addition to having folks wander through here to see if they want to buy this duplex, I got Kenabec and Niizh today. Christ. I've never seen cuter babies than 6 +/- week old Hoggies! THEY ARE SO CUTE! I mean REALLY CUTE! Their eyes are smaller than the big end of a pin... And their wee sweet turned up noses BEG TO BE KISSED! And their color! LORD!

Kenabec, normal, is a rusty/browny color on a cream background. Niizh, the green is green spots surrounded by a creamish/greenish background.

Both baby boys are sleeping under the Repti-bark right now. It's taking EVERYTHING I'VE GOT to not bother them and hug and kiss them! SO WEE AND SWEET!

Life is good. I've the cutest Hoggies ever! My boys!

I am getting this guy this month!!

Have you ever seen one like it? He's a local wild caught I ran across someone on craigslist asking about. Wow.... Sorry. Had to share on the subject of the wonderful hoggies!!

Come on you guys, you know I don't have a camera! I'm working the Great Minnesota Get-Together, aka State Fair, this coming Thurs. If the breeder will let me take K & N - I'm supposed to leave them alone for an ENTIRE WEEK!!! - I'll get some pics then. Dave will have his camera - and I'll remind him to take it.

Lexa, I put my order in for Kenabec ('ken-aybeck') before I ever got the Peeps and Jeeps Meisters. I wanted a snake I could take to the park so we could have some different species native to Minnesota besides Ripley, the bull snake, and Winnie the garter.

I wanted a name worth of a Hoggy, the park and all that. Kenabec is Ojibway for "snake." The Snake River runs through Kenabec County here in MN. Kenabec WAS going to be the only snake I got but when I saw the breeder also had a green - green being my favorite color and I wear it every day... I'm a wee bit obsessive... - Hoggy, I dibsed it even though he was twice as much as Kenabec.

I wanted to name him Green, but the Ojibway word for green is like 10 letters long and I knew I'd never be able to pronounce it OR remember it! So I found Niizh ('knee-ge' with the ge like in garage or mirage) which is "two." I thought that pretty fitting and easy to boot!

'Rockster, you can talk about your Hoggy here! Fine with me!

No, I've never seen a Hoggy like that! I know there's a tri-colored Hoggy, but I've no wish to see one. Harmless or not I cannot stand tri-colored snakes. Old coral snake fears from living in Florida. You just wanna be a copy cat, 'Rockster!

Lexa, well... I guess you're gonna have to study up and then bite the bullet and get you a Hoggy. I don't see much else you can do. Lori has one, I'm pretty sure. And while I'm new to Hoggies AND garters, I'll help you as much as I can.

One thing I do know and I'm playing the odds here, but Hoggies are NOT like garters and you usually/shouldn't keep more than one in an enclosure. They're canabalistic, the females usually more so than the males. That's why mine are males.

It can be done, but I've been told not to be surpised if one gets eaten. But the breeder said to feed them seperately and then let them settle down and relax in their feeding containers an hour or so before putting them back in their tank. One thing I have in my favor, well... Two other things I have in my favor is they're the same size and same age.

You can'thand feed these guys like you can garters.

Because of their toxin. I don't know for a fact, but I've been told the affect is accumulative, with reactions getting worse as time goes on. (shrugs shoulders)

I tell'ya. If I didn't have Peepers and Jeepers to take my love out on I'd be digging up the Hoggy tank right this minute!

Can I tell you? Watching a Hoggy tank is about as xciting and entertaining as watching a glacier melt...
