Fairly well camouflaged, alert and prone to flee. And they're surprisingly fast. I think they're also pretty active foragers, unlike many other viperids.
It's also the most widespread species of snake in the world with a range from Britain to Sakhalin Island just north of Hokkaido. And it's also the northernmost species of snake. And it only had 3 subspecies last time I checked.
