It's one of the Tiger Moths, possibly Grammia virgo The Virgin Tiger Moth? It depends where Loren is based! Where are you, Loren?

I dont know species of either pics. not my areas. I just know they look cool. That snail pic looks absolutely awesome at its full resolution.
the moth was brought home by my neighbor, I photographed it and let it go.
That moth is from the western u.s.

From the west it would be the Painted Tiger Moth Arachnis picta.
