Natrix locked! And new snakes!
Hi guys! I am super excited to say that I just witnessed my natrix natrix pair locked up.... the male is very, very enthusiastic.... as soon as they finished up it took about 10 minutes... then he started courting her again!! I mean geez! At least buy her dinner in between.... This is the original pair that Scott Felzer imported (from germany i think?) and they are proven! woooooooooooooo! I picked them up this past weekend at the hamburg show after a loooong (couple months) wait. I happened to run into some guy at the show who was literally almost in tears seeing natrix since he grew up with them.
I know I have been slacking on the photos... but well... it was winter...and I hate taking pictures inside... and I mean I really do hate it to the point where I kind of brumate my camera! (but since when did I start threads that didn't contain a single photo?)
Anyways, also, I recieved two really awesome boxes recently. From Richard I recieved... oh what else... CONCINNUS! Super uber extremely special ones. Totally drool-worthy. they are all amazing but one of the males literally blows my freaking mind. What's really cool is that I unpacked the females first. When I pulled out the super bright male last, I noticed he was all calm, and acting strangely on my hands. To the point where I started to feel violated... so I let him meet the ladies and it wasn't even 2 seconds before he was trying to mack on both at the same time. I have never had a male court my hand before just from the scent of a female!
From Joe I recieved a box of awesome-sauce. There were some snakes in there too. No but seriously, he was very kind enough to send me a trio of (gorgeous blue) FL blues 66% het FL albino, as well as 2.2 redsideds 66% poss het snow. These snakes are just gorgeous all on their own. I hope some of them prove out, it sure would be icing on the cake!
Photos coming soon... but not tonight... I am tired and sore from the 18 pallets of product we had to unload at the store today. Took me a freaking hour just to bring it all off the truck with the forklift. Ahhhh... nothing brightens your day like operating heavy machinery in strong winds for an hour.
On a side note... I recently acquired something I have wanted since before I was even allowed to get my first snake. Her name is Jade, and you can see her at this post here... along with my other slightly creepier new hobby....

Congrats on the lock and new additions!
Jade is lovely! I kind of want one of them now. Green isn't a colour I usually like... But Jade is sooooo pretty.
When Snakey was about a year old he kept courting with my hands. I had only kept him for about 3 months so I thought he was sick or had some kind of brain problem. Haha. Now that I've had some more experience with garters and have seen courting, well it seems like it was just that. I hadn't held any other snakes before that, either. I guess he was just... Well... A very typical teenager. Haha.

A bit of a blow there Don, feel for you mate.
Congrats Shannon Natrix have a rep for being tricky, all the best for the future squiggles. They hanker for amphibians when born so be prepared for scenting trickery to get them going.

Figured out that it was scanned as leaving Portland headed for Salt Lake where the plane transfer happens, but somehow didn't actually leave Portland. Sat there one day and went out on the next plane.
Glad you like the snakes Shannon. I've been a little worried about that bright male. He's still pretty thin. For the past few weeks, he has been eating so very little, and keeps trying to mate with... well, everything.
From now on, I'll treat others like they treat me. Some will be glad, others should be scared

Does that apply to N. natrix only? N. maura certainly didn't do any hankering for amphibians. I also believe I've read something about N. natrix young and earthworms.

The young that this pair produced last year started right away on live little fishes... I think I will be okay even if they are picky... I have plenty of tricks up my sleeve!

I suppose my experience comes from reading accounts of LTCs in this country. As per usual the British hobby completely ignores these because of apparent fussyness (much like they lable garters as difficult).
