New snake!

I was out playing some late night tennis when a snake slithered out onto the court! I took him/her home and identified it as a checkered garter. She has an okay temperament and doesn't strike at me, unless I keep bothering her. She musked the last two times I picked her up. It looked like she had just had a meal, though.

I know a lot of people here own checkers. Can someone tell me how well they do in captivity?

I'm going to quarantine her in another cage just incase she has anything. How long do I keep her there? What things should I keep an eye on?

I'll put some pics on so you guys can verify her species and whether it's a he or she. I'm so excited!

Her temperament will probably improve after she has been in captivity for a longer time.

EXTREMELY WELL! They are one of the most popular CB garter species.

Quarantine should be 5 - 6 weeks.

Re: New snake!

Okay! I've finally taken some pics of my new checkered. I picked her up today and she still musked, but didn't do any striking. Progress...

Anyway, here he/she is:

I'm screwing up with the pics, as usual, and can only seem to post one. Thanks for looking!

Re: New snake!

Have you loaded the pictures into your gallery, Bibi? Try following these instructions.

Guide to posting pictures.

By the way, these pictures are not of a Checkered, but of a Plains Garter T. radix.
