First good Herping this year!

Hello all,
Well I finally had my first good herping this year. So far it's been pretty bust! Here are some pics from this outing......enjoy!

Eastern Garter (T.s.sirtalis)

Here's another shot....look at the fat belly, not sure if it was a toad, frog or fledgling bird in there!!!!

Also found this large, unhappy Northern watersnake (Nerodia sipedon)

Re: First good Herping this year!

This Eastern Rat snake(Elaphe obsoleta obsoleta) in the tree was a real treat to find

the big find was this Eastern Hognose (Heterodon platyrhinos), first one I've EVER seen....very cool.

Dead snake?????

No, just pretending!

Very nice pictures and finds.

About the hognose, when they play dead and you flip them over, do they turn their belly up again? Our grass snakes do that.

Yep they do the same thing. It was kind of frustrating waiting for him to stop playing dead so I could get some pics of a "non-dead" looking snake. Even when you handled him, he was completely limp in your hands, very strange and cool!

Those are really nice photos. My favorite has to be the hognose. The eastern has great coloring also!

No, I didn't keep any of them, though the T.s.sirtalis was VERY tempting. Her colours were so vivid! I prefer to stick to captive bred animals when I can.
