Garter snake loose in my car

Does anyone know how i can find it?? Its a long story how it got loose in there but its wild and i dont want it to die in my car and stink. I want to get it out and let it go. Has anyone ever had this problem or know some ways to coax it out? Thanks!

Hi Maegan. I would suggest parking your car in the garage (if you have one) with all the doors open. Place fish, worms, water and anything else you can think of to bait the snake, outside the car. I'm sure it would quickly leave given the opportunity.

I'm sure it'll find its own way out if it's just left alone. If you knew where exactly it is in the car, it should already be a lot easier to get it moving. I've heard people have had success using hairdryers and leaf blowers to flush snakes out of tight spaces, but naturally it requires that you know where to point them.

Re: Garter snake loose in my car

I don't have a garage to put my car in but if you think it could find its way out on its own that would be great! He isn't in my engine or anything...hes actually INSIDE my car. He went under my seat and i couldn't find him!!

Re: Garter snake loose in my car

I wish you luck, I lost an Eastern milksnake (L.t.triangulatum) in my car once and never did find it. I also didn't have the "stink of death" in my car, so I'm guessing it found it's way out. Hopefully yours will do the same.

Re: Garter snake loose in my car

Hi Maegan,
You don't say what part of the US you live in and I think what Adamanteus meant with the car in the garage is that the sun will make it unbearably hot inside. A snakes first instinct when it gets too warm is to get out of the heat. (the warmth of the sun is pretty much it's only source) Most will try to burrow to avoid it. In your case either it couldn't burrow anywhere or would only end up between a warm carpet and the hot metal floor of the car. Either I can't see having a good ending.
I know it's not practical to leave your car in the driveway at night with the doors open but maybe a friend with a garage could help. Good luck.

Not sure how this worked out... but...

You can close the door of your car with the lock engaged, and not get it all the way closed.

If you are able to do that, there will be a small crack that the snake might be able to exit. You know how great garters are at slipping through small spaces!
