Re: would a 15 inch

What's the rush, Reed? Do you think you can earn some money? I have (as many of us do) some sought after species...tetrataenia, concinnus, cyrtopsis etc. But I know I'm never going to make any profit from them, even though they are expensive to buy, they are more expensive to raise. It can never be a way of making a fast buck. Maybe I've got you wrong, if so I apologise, but why the rush to breed from undersized snakes?

Sorry, but i am behind james 100% on this one! You're far too eager to make money off them without paying attention the the snakes themselves! They should be where your attention is and not the $ sign!

Re: would a 15 inch

if you have 2 males, 1 15inch and 1 18inch then personally i would keep the 18inch because its easier to handle but i suggest if you get a female the same size and just leave them to it. dont encorege it by hubernating them. the chances of a big healthy litter with a female of 18inches are alot slimmer tham with a female of 25inches. it is better to leave them as long as poss before mating. i have 1.1 marcys in the same tank. i would perfere if they dont mate next year but i am not going to seperate them or encorage them atall. i am just leaving them to it.

Re: would a 15 inch

males can generally breed after a year and over 12 inches...size doesn't affect the males in breeding as much as it does on females...if they are too small or young, it can cause health problems and possibly shorten their life span...females should be over 2 years and 18 inches long, preferably longer. I usually don't breed the females until they are 3 years old.

Re: would a 15 inch

also, there is no way to tell a snakes age unless you have raised it form birth....size varies according to diet and how much they eat...
they would be fine together, however should be separated at feeding time to avoid possibly having the big one eating the smaller one.
