how do i count scales

where do i start from and end, and the scales go like a z do i count in a z patern?

My favorite method, too. And for the same reason.

It's certainly the easiest way, if the snake sits still for the photo and if you have the ability to take a clear, close up picture.

Use flash, then it doesn't matter how fast it moves.
