Finally!!!

I have finally got my first garter this weekend!
A CB female t.s.s. "florida blue" from 06.

Looked for a male aswell but with no luck.

She's been eating guppies from the day I put her in her temporary enclosure. Quite a surprise as I expected her to be all stressed out from the transport and her new surroundings.
She's lively, and pays a lot of attention to her surroundings. Moving from the basking spot to the cold area beside the water bowl.

I'm not fully done with my vivarium for her, and hopefully a him as well, but i'll post pics of the project when I'm done.

She's not tame at all, and it's not my mission to make her so. I would like to make her "handable" though. I thought about giving her a week to settle down, and then starting handling her once in a while. Is that too soon you think?

greets Tore

Re: Finally!!!

congratulations on the new arrival!
I hope you can find her a partner soon. I am not allowed to buy any snakes till I pay my student loan off, so i am a little envious!!!!

I'm sure after she's settled in you'll have no trouble handling her- even my wild caught garter tamed up a little after a while!
Best of luck!!

I got it from a dane called Søe.

We don't have a lot of people breeding garters in denmark.

He has some goog looking specimens though.

Re: Finally!!!

Congrats with her! Hopefully you'll find her a suitable male. They are known for their temperemant and this normally stays that way.
We'll be expecting pics (or certainly I am)

Re: Finally!!!

Congratulations with your first garter !!
I think it's ok to start handle her after a week. Normaly baby garters don't mind the transport much. But like Snaky already said, s.s. florida blue have quite a temperament, and I think it's very hard to tame them We have ours for 1,5 year and they're still jumping around even if I only stand in front of their enclosure. But I guess that makes them so special
. They are gorgeous garters and I'm sure you will have a lot of fun with her.

Re: Finally!!!

"Florida Blue" are very beautyful snakes and good feeders too.
I´ve bred them for some years, but now I´m thru with it.
My male died and I´m going to sell my last female, because I´m looking forward to breed more parietalis.
