us protestants forget about those details
but I'm sure he was well supplied in other ways
I am convinced that I myself could have been a renaissance man, given the proper support staff and financial backing
I don't begrudge Mendel his privileges in the least - we should all have them

Mendel was an augustian friar from Austria.

He got best possible education and than could study in his convent in Brünn.
