For all you breeders/sellers........

If I want to buy a garter from a breeder, do I have to buy from one in Canada, or can they be shipped even from the US?? I am really hoping to buy in the spring, but I worry that the types i want may not be available here, and I'm curious as to whether or not they can be shipped across the border??

I contacted a few american breeders before I got my T.s. concinnus but none would ship over the border. For most species its not illegal, just the effort involved for an inexpensive snake seems to deter most breeders.
If theres any out there.... I have email and a pm box too!

In Europe we have multiplied this problem.
Shipping costs are really high, further you have to get a form from your vet and another vet here.
There are only few breeders with the permission to export.

And up here in the northeastern corner of Europe, it's even worse. I don't know about the bureaucracy involved with importing from the US, but as I've pointed out a couple of times before, nobody really wants to import inexpensive snakes even within the EU and even if it doesn't involve any extra charge or paperwork.

And that's why I probably have 10% of all the garters in Finland at the moment. IIRC, there are about 700-800 "pet" snakes in the entire country.

Re: For all you breeders/sellers........

Well, I think it's safe to assume that I won't be trying to ship garters from Europe, and I sure as heck don't want to deplete the Finnish garter population either!!
Guess I should have directed my question to the American breeders, huh??
