i'm pretty sure thats an eastern garter snake (Thamnophis Sirtalis Sirtalis), only other thing it could be which i dont think it is(only if people disagree with me) a red-sided that hasnt got its color yet

Totally agree with Reed on this one. Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis- Easter Garter. You'll find info here under "Care sheets". Check under the species Common Garter.

What a pretty snake! How big is he? Looks really small in that picture!! I love the checker pattern down his sides, my eastern only shows that when she's stuffed full of salmon!!
