my parietalis however . . .

seem to have no interest in each other
he's hanging out here

not pursuing either of the ladies, who are hanging out below

he's not quite two years old and considerably smaller than they
could that be the problem?

Maybe he's finished already. Or maybe he's not quite in the mood yet.

In the wild, the males reach maturity at 1-2 years old. The age could be a factor, but your guess is as good as mine.

Re: my parietalis however . . .

it's okay if they don't
I kind of like having the species tank
Sammy is the one I really want to have babies
it would be kind of nice though if one of these girls did too

Re: my parietalis however . . .

I've got the same thing around here...
1 of my males will mate with just about everything (yes...even my other male!) and my other male never gets excited...Really strange, but it still resulted in 25 young last year...so I guess he is doing his thing at night

Re: my parietalis however . . .

I am thinking I should take the male out and return him to the bachelor tank
I mean - they've been together for well over a month now
if they haven't mated yet, it's unlikely to happen this time around, or is it?
I don't think he's all that happy in the tank with these large females and I wouldn't be surprised, if they didn't mate at all

Re: my parietalis however . . .

They might wanna mate after a shed of one of the ladies. I know my parietalis also don't mate very frequently...but female sheds can definatly help!

Re: my parietalis however . . .

Here is a really good tip Scott Felzer gave me: I am copying this straight from an email he just sent me:

"Breeding wise I combine them for 3 days and seperate on the 4th, feeding on the 4th day. This way they don't get too buddy buddy and helps drive the breeding interest up. I combine for 3.5 weeks and then after the female's first shed, even if the shed is after that 3.5 week period. "

This method really does drive the males to breed more than just being around females all the time.

Guess distance does make the heart fonder.....LOL. Yeh, I've heard the same thing as well. Seems like when the females are "new", it gets them more excited. Hmmmmmmm........
