Ill have to find the species list for collecting if there on it and can b kept and bred in cali then i guess ill drive up in the spring and find some

Not in every state they aren't. I believe they are in Michigan though.

They're protected here, so most likely in Michigan too.

Reed, in Ca. you can posess 2 western terrestrial garters with your ca fishing license. Thats means 2 total out of the 3 subspecies that are found in ca(coast,mountain, wandering). You cannot breed or sell them. You can appply for a non- commercial permit that lets you have more than 2, but then you still cannot sell them.
That coast garter probably came from somewhere fairly close to the s.f. bay area.

Butlers are protected in Ohio (where you can own for WC and breed them with a license), and Wisconsin for sure. I am not sure about Michigan... want me to look for you?

The T.e.terrestris are great looking specimens. My understanding of the California regs is that you can legally take two of each speciec of Thamnophis from the wild as long as you have a valid fishing licence (except the Sans of coarse).
