Snake coiling question

Is it true that when a snake coils its head area and neck in an "S" shape, that it is nervous and getting ready to strike? Or can it sometimes mean other things?

well..not necessarily....and they don't need to coil to strike!!

Coiling in this fashion is one sign that a snake is preparing to strike.... but it might also be that the snake is just resting in that position.
And as Don says, they don't need to coil in order to strike.

ain't that the truth my Florida king i was holding gave me no warning lol it just calmly looked over saw my ring finger and latched on to me no striking no tail movement no nothing..

My dekays does that a lot, but he never strikes. He'll pull back like that when he's found something that makes him nervous, and does it to get away by going directly back.

yeah... mine does thet when he's scared but he has never struck... but he does puff up when he's really mad
