In the Netherlands it is forbidden to feed frogeggs and tadpoles.

Re: New inhabitants!

Is it?

I know it's forbidden to keep adult frogs, but you can keep tadpoles and eggs until they've grown into small frogs.

I've actually never heard feeding them being forbidden.

Then again, I've never leafed through a lawbook.

Re: New inhabitants!

Well, Christiaan,
you could always put your snakes on a leash and walk them around the pond to feed themselves. That's not technically 'feeding' them the eggs and tadpoles!

I can pretty much guarantee that it technically is.

Re: New inhabitants!

Hmm, don't know about the leash, I don't think they come in less than 1 cm size

Question: I put the young parietalises in a 35/50 cm 'smart store' plastic boxes, and I drilled 93 three mm. holes in the top. Is that adequate enough ventilation? or should I drill the whole lid?

Re: New inhabitants!

No idea, it probably is, but I've found it simpler to cut piece out of the wall and replacing it with metal or plastic mesh. My 50 litre smart store has a ventilation area of 300 square centimeters (15*20cm), my 30 litre box has two 100mm holes and my 15 litre box has one 100mm hole, and I think they work well. 93 3mm holes equals to about 26 square centimeters.

Re: New inhabitants!

Good ventilation is far more important than many people realise. I'd be inclined to drill the entire lid.

Re: New inhabitants!

Maybe you should buy some plexiglass screening, cut a square out of both sides and the top, then hot glue gun the screen on.

Re: New inhabitants!

I think I'll drill the entire lid then, since I will probably want to use the box for storage when the babies get too big.

Stefan, thanks for doing the maths Those two holes, are they posotioned opposite each other?
