Question Again? (Shedding)

OK, my garter shed about a month after it's last shed. I thought I saw blue eyes, but they were barely blue. Now, there is a shed in it's tank. Is this normal? I thought garters were only supposed to shed a couple times a year?

Not unusual...babies can shed 6-8 times a year depending on how fast they grow. Adults can shed often if they are growing fast too.

Yep. Sounds like yours is having an adolescent growth spurt. Pat yourself on the back for feeding it well.

Re: Again? (Shedding)

The shed is kind of disgusting though. It was flat, has a thick black line running through it, and was stuck to a rock.

Re: Again? (Shedding)

If you dampen it or even run it through a bowl of water, then you can spread it out neatly on a piece of cardboard or something, and it will dry nice and straight. Then you can count the subcaudal scales on one side of the body between the vent and tail spike and let us know what number you come up with . It'll give you an idea of the sex of your snake and add to our growing database. Remember to start near the vent with the first two scales that touch each other from opposite sides of its body.
