New Snake and a story

So i saw an add for T. s. concinnus and was was interested in getting a pair, so I first looked up the seller on the fauna classifieds BOI (board of inquiry) I saw that this seller did not have the best feedback though the posts were several years old, I really wanted these snakes so I emailed him about them but expressed my concern regarding the poor reviews, Upon his reply he stated that that was his old partener and that he now took complete control over the compnay and assured me that his practices were proffesional. so I decided to bite the bullet and paypal'd the money, so i received the "pair today" first off the shipment was sent USPS which i have never received a snake via them (illegal) and wasnt even UPS that he stated he planned on using. then when i opened the package I saw one beautiful snake.then i pulled out an ugly one with some scarring, well that was ok because i had my 1.1 right? nope Wrong, upon inspection it looked like it was 2 males visually, well I know visual sexing isnt always accurate to I pulled out ione male and one female pickeringii compared their tails then compared the 2 concinnus taisl..... yup males, but i had to be sure before I took action with an email saying ummm wrong snakes, so i drove to the wholesale facility where i work and had them probed......conclusion......MALES, so at this point I am very frustrated and i email the guy saying nicely that he sent me 2 males and i would like to resolve the issue as soon as possible, well im currently waiting for a response and I'll keep you guys updated on how this works out, anyways here's the male i am going to keep for sure, i didnt even bother taking a pic of the other one

and off topic
here's my bigger female Pickeringii looking pretty darn fat, think she could drop soon?

I'm really sorry to hear that. It's always risky to buy from someone you don't know. I suggest to keep the new snake(s) in quarantaine for at least two months.
I hope this guy is going to be fair with you and solve the problem.

I must admit I wouldn't buy an animal I hadn't seen from someone I didn't know or trust. (Unless it was a rare opportunity to get a species that is not readily available elsewhere, then I might risk it!)

Good luck Kevin, the guy may well be genuine and just give you an exchange.

Re: New Snake and a story

Hi Kevin,

First, I see that her scales are spread apart, but the swelling doesn't appear to have moved caudally toward the vent. I think you still have a bit of a wait . Second, if the opportunity arises, I'd let this guy know that you understand that sexing can be difficult, and that sometimes accidents happen. You don't hold any ill feelings, but you'd like the resolve the issue and will be posting your experiences (either positive or negative) depending upon the way that this accident is resolved. If this fits your goals, you might mention that you hadn't planned to buy a third snake and don't relish the idea of paying return shipping on the extra snake, but that you're willing to buy the third snake at a reduced rate if he can ensure that it will be a prime looking female.

Just make it clear that you're willing to accept the error but that you still want the female and will be describing how he either rectified the situation or failed to resolve an honest mistake. I wouldn't even bring up the USPS issue... too accusatory.

Re: New Snake and a story

Those stories are always a sad thing to hear... I've never had anything shipped to me before and I know I'll be very worried about that the first time I decide to do a shipping. It's always better if you can see the snake's and how they are kept, of course this is not always possible. Hope it will work out!

Re: New Snake and a story

here's the update, the seller was very proffesional about handling it and i now get to keep the second male for the mix up and he will be sending me a new female next week (when he gets more in) so, so far I am happy with the outcome but I'm not gonna count my blessing or praise the seller until i get a nice healthy female in, so I'll let you guys know the final outcome

Re: New Snake and a story

Hopefully it was just an honest mistake, and all will work out as promised. I hope he does come through because it darkens all of our reputation when one of our own scams another. Best of luck,

Rick
