Yeah, you sort of have to go out of your way to find a 40 gal that doesn't have the standard floor space.

A 40 breeder is 36 X 18

A 40 long is 48 X 12 (same floor space as a 55 gallon long, only its not as tall)

ok well that didnt work, they are checkared and all about 7 to 8 inches long the tank is like 30 or 40 gallons and i cant post a pic its not working

I know, I was thinking more in terms the design of a lot of aquariums and some types of tall tanks. Like, I was assuming that if anyone went out and bought a 40 gal for four snakes it would either be a breeder or a long, either of which are enough room for four babies.

Well sure they're big enough. I was only pointing out that they are both 40 gallons but the floor space is different. And being how floor space is really what matters for garters, telling people what the gallons are doesn't say anything about how much space the snakes have.
