Question about a snake I once found

About two years ago I found, captured, and measured a 2 1/2 (30 inches) Garter Snake. My question is how long would it take for a Garter snake to grow that big?

Re: Question about a snake I once found

Not an expert, but doesn't it depend on the frequency and abundance of food?

Re: Question about a snake I once found

Seeing that it got that big, couldn't we asume?......oh oh....that it,or shall we say she had a good food supply. So from here.........How do we calculate the age?I have some baby females born at the begining of july. The smallest is 6" and the biggest is 11" the average is 8.5" Of growth in 2.5 months of growing
time. They started of at about 3.5".Thats 5" of growth.Lets say they would keep on growing till mid Oct. before she stops eating in prep. for hibernation.
Another month of growing. But whats the growth per month?5" in 2.5 months=
2" per month.x 7 months=14" div.by 30=2.14 yrs.Take into concideration certain variables like some months more food some less. Also the bigger the snake ,the bigger the growth.Throw in some luck ,add a pinch of salt and voila
30".........................What were we talking about again?

It also depends on what species/subspecies it is, how long the winters last where you found it, etc.
