Subadult snake
Manitoba Reptile Expo
I pretty much went there with 1 thing on the mind "hoping there will be garters" Unfortunately there wasn't, a lot of ball pythons and corn snakes though. Few rat snakes and even spotted a couple hognosed snakes.
So it was a quick expo for me, got in, glanced at everything out in 10 minutes.
I only went this year because last year someone managed to pick up a albino checkered garter which was eventually sold to me almost a year later
What kind of snakes do you see at conventions around your areas?

Re: Manitoba Reptile Expo
For some reason my last snake meet experience was the same as John's. :-)
Lots of pythons, boas and rat snakes. There was a bit of prearranged garter action in the carpark, which made it worthwhile.

Re: Manitoba Reptile Expo
I've only went to one.. There was tons and tons of pythons like you said, but two tables had garters, one of which I got my checkered...
I stayed for more like 2 hours, and I saw a bunch of hognose snakes that were really tempting.
It was fun and successful, but my main goal (pinkieqs) weren't there... Seems like there's never any garters at shows.=/

It's hard to believe that the shows aren't full of garter snakes given their activity, personality, and intelligence.
but i hold to the opinion that they will sooner rather than later take their place of the top of the snake ownership list.
there is a breeders sale back in doncaster in i think November? so any babies that i haven't found novice keeper's for, might just end up there on a table.
which reminds me i'v scored another hit, my youngest daughter after hearing that one of her class mates has a lizard, decided that perhaps her dad wasn't so uncool after all, and mentioned my garters [something she had been refusing to do] so the lad is coming down to pick up his two new snakes after i have grown them on just a little more
