doing some feeding
doing some feeding at the moment..
I tried charging my camera batteries but unfortunately they didn't charge for some reason I don't know why
Right now I'm feeding some worms to my 2 northern redbellies Tic & Tac, and my 2 checkereds Ping & Pong. One of the checkereds just shed and showing off by being out in the open which is awesome because that one is the hider.
I noticed in pictures that some people chop up worms into little bits and put them on a plate for the snakes to scramble over. but I cut them and tong feed it. What are the pros and cons? Maybe plate feeding would be easier with the adults?

Re: doing some feeding
It's really just a personal preference. I think plate feeding is a little less stressful on the snake, but then you have to watch for food fights and be prepared to break them up. With tong feeding, it takes a little longer, but you know just who has eaten and how much, and there are less chances for food fights. I plate fed most of my babies, tong fed a couple that didn't like the plate at first.

Re: doing some feeding
all of mine are tong fed, but its not like I have 5 in a tank or more, mainly 2 or 3 in a large tank.
I'm noticing that one of the northern redbellies is starting to form a different tinge of color. Might be an orange phase while the other is still gray. I just fed them a small worm, they will probably want seconds right away. I'm going to get a picture of the 2 different species of snakes together just to show you a size difference between 2 different species of the same age

Re: doing some feeding
the northern redbellies are 2 months old and never had a problem trying to raise them, except starting out the worm pieces I had to cut up were so tiny that I son't think I could have cut them any smaller, now I can do about 1/8 diameter comfortably with them, they've gotten twice as big

This would be Tac and Pong in this picture, for the curious ones that do measuring, the quarter is 7/8 inches or 24mm

This is Ping, notice the black channel is joined in the middle, makes the back of his neck look like a capital I

Done feeding these guys now though
Time to start thawing some pinkies and move on

Re: doing some feeding
all of my older males all snubbed their offerings, so far the count is 10 out of 13 has been fed.. Spot, Slider and Frosty all never took. I'll work on slider and spot a bit more because at least they flicked their tongue at it

Re: doing some feeding
tried serpwidgets for the first time and came out to
Northern Redbelly = 4 1/16
Checkered = 8 15/16
that little northern redbelly was around 2.5 inches when it was born
