Re: Snake died during hibernation (photos!)

Sorry for the loss Sjoerd, no idea to the death however, if it had been dead a little while could the blood and marks be from the death itself...like the first signs of the rotting process..? just a guess

Re: Snake died during hibernation (photos!)

No, Thats not it. He was fine a week ago (last check-up). Looking at the temperature (about 5 or 6 celcius) rotting wouldn't start withing a week after dying (i think...)

I'm very sorry to hear such bad news, Sjoerd
I have to agree with most of the others, sometimes you just can't figure out what the problem was....

Sorry about your loss, I guess it's just another part of keeping snakes.

Re: Snake died during hibernation (photos!)

So sorry for your loss, Sjoerd. It's so frustrating when you don't have an answer as to why.

Re: Snake died during hibernation (photos!)

That's so sad. Sucks to lose them and especially without a clear reason why.

Re: Snake died during hibernation (photos!)

Thanks everyone,
I have performed an autopsy and will place some pictures soon.
It looks like the animals was to fat. I also found a lot of fattissue around its guts. After removing organs and fat the snake had lost 29% of its weight.
