Scale missing on top of Garters Face

Yesterday my son noticed a small white dot on the top of his garter snake's face. At first we thought it was just something that could be wiped off but today my son said it looks like it is a missing scale (I think that is what it's called) I do not have any way to take a picture of it so I am not sure if anyone can help me or not. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Scale missing on top of Garters Face

I had a garter missing a scale on his head, but it was there after a shed...

Re: Scale missing on top of Garters Face

His last shed was in March. His eyes aren't cloudy so it doesn't appear that he will shed anytime soon but I was wondering if the next shed would take care of the missing scale. I just don't know if it can get infected or anything. We do keep the cage very clean and make sure that he has clean water every day.

I'm just not sure what he did to cause the scale to fall off. We did get him a bigger cage a couple of weeks ago and he has been very daring and hanging around in it, in all kind of weird positions. Maybe he did something to his face while exploring around in the bigger cage.

Don't worry yourself too much, if you are keeping your snake clean and warm, it will heal itself.

Unless the skin itself is violated, there is little danger of infection.

One of my snakes shaved off some belly plates escaping his cage, it took a few sheds, but they are all back.

I use a small drop of panalog on such wounds, just in case. Panalog is available from your vet, and includes both anti-bacterial and anti-fungal medications.
