Temp question

My temps are reading 94 in the bask area and 84 in the cool - my garters tend to hide 90% of the time in the subtrate

are these temps ok or too high?

That's a little hotter than optimal. They should be down under 90, except perhaps when they're sick or for short periods. When they get too hot, they try to thermoregulate by hiding or seeking cooler refuge. It sounds like thats what your snakes are trying to do.

Lol i will change my heat bulb - i changed it as i thought it was a little cold -thanks alot

Yes, that's too hot Danny. Try to get the cool end down to low - mid 70s and the hot spot to mid 80s. Is your heater at one end of the viv?

If you can't get the right temps by changing bulbs, you can buy a rheostat (dimmer) for light bulbs, and adjust the wattage that way.

Last week, before I left for Atlanta, I had to lower the wattage of my bulbs. Our room where the herps live gets warmer in spring, and the 60 watt bulbs are too much now... we changed them for 25's.
