I found mine at Petland; not sure if you have one close by to you or not. Petsmart may have "fancy guppies" but they are a bit more expensive, maybe 1-1.50 a piece.
Thanks. The Petland is Three hours from my house so that's out of the question. and yeah the fancy guppies are expensive (1.50-3.00!). I'm gonna check the bait shops near where I live.
try the chopped up trout idea. It may solve everything.
I got this at a market for $5
it will feed a solo garter or a pair of garters for a month or more.
Cut it up, make sure there are no loose ribs to poke your snake, and freeze what you don't use for future feedings. Leave the skin, you may have to use scissors to cut the strips, but the skin seems to make it smell better to the snakes.
I cut it up and froze 6 bags, then I just thaw out what I need.
When you freeze the fish that's not going to git used cut it in sections or strips and put it in ziplock baggies with water. The water stops the fish from getting freezer burnt.
Good advice. That's what I do. Pack them in water, then freeze.
Petco is where I get the frozen silversides we talked about. They should have them I would think, right next to the frozen pinkies. If your snakes will eat them, they're safer than any live fish or fish you can get at the supermarket IMHO, and are small enough usually that they can be fed whole, which is good.
From now on, I'll treat others like they treat me. Some will be glad, others should be scared
I'm gonna try and go with the silver sides over the fillets(if I dont find feeder guppies soon) simply because convenience is no problem for me. I only have one snake(maybe two next spring), so whole (hopefully live) fish are my first choice.
