Since you guys are so snake smart....please tell me your suggestions on the best kind/brand of substrate for my snake. I don't have ALOT of money to spend so I need one that would be the best for my money. Thanks!

My favorite is ReptiBark, especially for babies.

It looks natural and cool, and Is too big to be ingested really.

I use Carefresh from walmart. It's pretty cheap and the baby likes being able to burrow under it.

I use Coco-fiber. Its 100% natural and its awesome. I was in the same boat as u on wanting something kinda cheap cause of money wise. I think it was about $5. Its the size of a brick the way I got it and its compressed so I only needed to use half. I followed the directions on the package to have it expand and half worked great for a 20 gallon tank. Its easy to spot clean. My babies are only a lil over a month old and when I feed them I just take them out of there encloser. They like it a lot.
I wanted to Thank you Steve for your help with the heating pad.

I have 4 Easterns(mine: Furbie and Whiplash; moms: Diamond and Silky) all are 5 and half months old. So much fun gaters are.

Carefresh is where its at! It's cheap and you can put it in a compost pile. It breaks down fairly easily when it's pretty warm out. Love the stuff.

    Re: substrate

I use the shredded Aspen from Walmart. If it gets too warm in your area and you notice it kinda "smelly", then use the coco fiber and the repti-bark until cooler weather. My boys are little pigs in their enclosure, like swimming thru their water dish all day long, which tends to make the aspen smell faster. My girls, not so much.
