Feeding

I was thinking of buying some worms or nightcrawlers and maybe breed them. Does anyone else do that? The past couple of days Lucifer lost interest in eating fish and won't eat it. Then yesterday found a worm and showed her it and she wanted it. I didn't feed it to her cause I don't know what kind it is and it doesn't look like the type of worm you always see in your backyard. Anyway what are the type of worms that they can and cannot eat? I tried looking on the internet to identify it but can't. Maybe you know what it is. In the pic the closest it looks like is the worm in the bottom left corner.

Then don't feed it. Bottom left is a red wriggler. Very toxic. Top right only.

Right...they can only eat nightcrawlers.

Of course, they can eat the other kind of earthworms too, but you can't buy those.

My nightcrawlers have been breeding! I have a alot of babies in my wormbox. I feed them coffee grounds and keep them in my dishwasher! (we don't use it!)

How often do you feed them? what type of container are they in? Substrate?

A friend (and his grandsons) caught some worms for me. They are in some compost in his garage until I can go pick them up. The nightcrawlers I get at Walmart are in some clumpy dry dirt. Doesn't look very comfy!

I have them in dirt that I collected from my yard but add the new dirt that the nightcrawlers come in to it. You definately have to keep the soil moist but not too wet! I add used coffee grounds every 2-3 weeks. They are in a rubbermaid container with holes punched in it! I keep them in a dark place (my dishwasher but not in the fridge) Our kitchen is not that warm, not sure if this has anything to do with it.

I was thinking about putting them in a larger container with better substrate too. Guess I need to Google worm farming?
