It costs more to fly to Canada than the US? I didn't know. Yes, you would find more than red sideds. Radix also frequent the area, as do non-thamnophis species like the smooth green snake, northern ringneck snake, red belly snake, northern water snake, painted turtle, snapping turtle, and a whole plethora of amphibians. But since cost is more prohibitive, this'll have to be a seperate outing

As for collecting, while I realize with some species it's the only route to gaining them into captivity, I hope this doesn't become the main goal of the trip. Perhaps with a meeting of likeminded thamnophytes, a gathering of captive bred offspring for trade could also occur instead. Being premedatated, it might be easier to work out the permits too.

ooh, I might as well point you towards Field Herp Forum for a wealth of information on the subject. It's mainly a NA forum, and there are many NC members.

With sirtalis being the only Garter species found in NC, I doubt that collecting is likely to become the main reason for us to fly half way round the globe, but it might be nice to bring home a momento.

If the first meeting works out well, Narcisse might be a good target for our second get-together.

yes CA has many different snakes i would probaly herp somewhere in the bay area

I just thought I'd bump this thread.... two reasons; firstly to let our newest members see it, secondly to ask you all if you've started saving your pennies yet!

Yeah Reed, come with us. We need as many members as we can get. Where in England do you visit every year?
I like Ians' idea of using this as a 'swap-meet'.... if Terry (Stonyloam) comes I want some Maritimes!
