The southwest u.s. deserts can be awesome if the conditions are right. Not much garter action in most of it though. Not really by the airport either, unless maybe L.a.

Re: Thamnophis.com World Meeting

I hope to get into the mojave a few times this spring and summer, if the conditions are ok. Last year the herps were few and far between due to drought. On a good 3 day trip, you might find 12-15 different species of herps, maybe more, with total individuals being far too many to count, on a year like last year, you might find 6-10 herps total, other than the fairly common side blotched lizards and whiptails. One 3-day trip (1500 miles driven total) last year yielded just 1 live snake found (a cal king), and a few dead on road, and a few lizards, but only the really common ones).

Re: Thamnophis.com World Meeting

Maybe we should make one of our future meetings a bit of a desert adventure? I'd be game for that!

So, do we have a majority consensus for North Carolina in 2009? Or should I be focusing my attentions elsewhere? I'd like to be sure that I'm pleasing as many members as possible.... if the first meeting is a success we're more likely to have subsequent meetings. More feed-back please guys!

Same here, no problem convincing my parents to go, or they might even come along, that would save me the liberty of saving up money.

Re: Thamnophis.com World Meeting

NC works well for me. I think it's a good herping area and although there's only one species of garter there, there are lots of other herps to keep us entertained.
